AN EASY HISTORICAL NATURE HIKE
NOTES

TOTAL WALKING DISTANCE: 5 km

TOUR TYPE

The rolling rock moraine beaches of Raet National Park have parallel soft mulch walking trails circling the historic Hove Farm and WWII military barracks. The salty air or the sound of birds in the sky makes this an
attractive all season trail void of backbreaking hills. At regular intervals spectacular vistas appear along the path towards the far west end of Tromøy island. Here the historic island of Merdø and the Torungen Lighthouses are visible.
The Hove farm was incidentally the first place to document the growing of potatoes and the trail is lined with 6th century grave mounds. The name Hove is indicative of Viking settlements and the island is home to a 12th century medieval stone church. This hike is ultimately as pleasing to the historical minded as to the nature lover.
