DUTCH QUARTER STROLL
INCLUDING FLEKKEFJORD MUSEUM
TOUR TYPE

NOTES
The Dutch Quarter of Flekkefjord are rows of well preserved and delightful wooden houses on a pattern of narrow streets with roots in the “Holland” trade since the 1500s. Flekkefjord was a major trading post for timber, stone and lobster export and some of the Dutch merchants even married and settled here. There are many Dutch words that influenced the local language. Pay attention to the characteristic «stoops» modeled on porches found in the Netherlands.
Christopher Beers was one of the wealthy merchants of that time and as part of the Dutch Quarter city walk, the Museum provides an additional guided tour of his home anno 1724. Here you will learn “the trick of the trade” and other fascinating stories. Imagine the folks that crossed these very floorboards over 300 years ago! The restored boat and warehouses are the other part of the museum. Check out what you see through the glass floor!
