Næs Ironworks Museum

Næs Jernverksmuseum, one of the best-preserved ironworks, and the second largest in Norway. Located by the river Storelva in Holt, Tvedestrand, Southern Norway.  All activity closed due to a flood in 1959, but great effort was made to preserve it as a showcase of Norwegian industrial activity dating back to the 16th century. Nearly all equipment, forges and buildings are intact and functional.

Approximately 1,5 km from the museum (marked with signs along the road at Fiansvingen), you will find the Solberg mine, an iron mine operative in the 18th century and closed down in the 1860-ies. The mine delivered iron ore to the blast furnace at Nes and is approximately 150 meters deep.
